About Van Gogh Sunflowers Bearbrick - Medicom Toy - Set of 2 (100%400%)

This Van Gogh Sunflowers Bearbrick features one of the artist's most famous  paintings: The Sunflowers.

Dubbed “Van Gogh Museum,” the figures come in sizes of 100%, 400%, 1000% and see a glossy finish over a bevy of details. Burnished hazel tones complement the calm hues of the yellow sunflower petals repeated all throughout the piece, covering every surface of the figures from the tips of their ears to the bottom of their feet. “Vincent” is scrawled diagonally on the back of the BE@RBRICKs in a typeface that loosely mimics Van Gogh’s iconic signature. Finishing off the pieces, the bottom right leg is stamped with “Van Gogh Museum,” while the left is graced with the official trademark of the artwork.

Van Gogh painted a total of twelve of the sunflower canvases, although the most commonly referred to are the seven he painted while in Arles in 1888 – 1889. The other five he had painted previously while in Paris in 1887. There are many pieces within this series of paintings (each is clearly identifiable as a Van Gogh work) in which there are only minor differences that separate them. The overall layout of the painting along with positioning of the actual sunflowers usually remains the same in the similar paintings. As Van Gogh anticipated in 1889, the Sunflowers finally became his, and served – combined with self-portraits – as his artistical arms and alter ego up to the present day. Van Gogh

Van Gogh was a master painter who strongly influenced the abstract and Neo-expressionist who came after him. Originating from the Netherlands, he discovered Impressionist art while living in Paris and started to use the color and light. His work is well known for its beauty, emotion, and color, as well as its interesting viewpoints of mundane objects. Despite being extremely poor and generally unknown throughout his lifetime, Van Gogh is now one of the greatest Dutch painters.  He lived a life with emotional tension and madness, and he created his finest piece, Starry Night, inside an institution. Although the specter of mental illness haunted him throughout his adult life and created a habit of inflicting self-harm (such as the infamous severed ear), his work remained a testament to his genius. Van Gogh died at the age of only 37, due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His brother Theo would go on to distribute his work and cultivate his popularity.
