The Bull "Le Taureau" - Pompon - Statue
About Le Taureau Statue
This statue is a replica of Pompon's Le Taureau statue. Le Taureau can be found today in Musée François Pompon in Saulieu, France. François Pompon was a French sculptor, most commonly recognized for his stylized animals. He exalted lyricism in light by polished surfaces with an economy of detail. After working fifteen years as Rodin’s assistant, and receiving encouragement from him, Pompon produced some stunning works and left nearly 300 pieces to the French state. To this day, François Pompon may be considered an influential forerunner of modern sculpture. In 1906, Pompon decided to devote himself to the representation of wild animals.
Pompon once said, “It's the movement that determines the form, what I tried to render is the meaning of the movement. At the Jardin des Plantes, I follow the animals when they walk… What is interesting is the animal that moves. I make the animal with almost all the furbelows, and then, little by little, I eliminate so as to keep only what is essential”.
