This painting most probably represents a portrait of Glenn O’Brien an East Village art and culture journalist Basquiat knew. Basquiat’s portrait of Glenn doesn’t resemble O’Brien at all, instead, it consists of a large mask featuring a black head with wide open mouth and black and white teeth. The mask is surrounded by dozens of papers arranged in a collage.
