This beautiful Katsushika Hokusai LOQI Backpack features his woodblock print Fuji from Goten-Yama, at Shinagawa on the Tokaido Highway (1830-32), part of his Ukiyo-e print series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. This Fuji from Goten-Yama print is an impression of 2 found at the British Museum, and it displays a view of Mt Fuji across the Sagami Bay, between cherry trees and dotted hills at the Goten-Yama above Shinagawa. The view also renders townspeople with children picnicking and taking refreshment at temporary tea-stalls. Cherries are believed to be transplanted from the distant Yoshino during the Kambun Era (1661-72) which are visible in Hokusai's print. In contrast to other scenes rendered by the artist, such as his landscape view during autumn at the first post-station leading north out of Edo, Fuji from Goten-Yama is a much more cheerful spring scene.
