The story of Cupid and Psyche was among his favorite legends in such a way that he painted multiple versions inspired by their forbidden love. The myth tells the story of a princess (Psyche) so beautiful the goddess Venus felt jealous of. Blinded in anger, Venus commands Cupid, her son, to make Psyche fall in love with a churlish creature. Instead, Cupid ends up falling in love with her for real. As Cupid and Psyche's loves grew, the gods agree to make Psyche immortal so they can be married. Using his modern interpretation of Cupid and Psyche's tale, he painted the lovers as children.Details
