Charles & Ray Eames - Miniature - La Chaise (1948)

Brand
Vitra
$410.00

Description

"La Chaise" consists of two paper-thin fiberglass shells glued to each other but separated by hard rubber discs; the intervening space was filled with polystyrene foam. Charles and Ray Eames left the plastic shell untreated. The base is made of five in part angled metal rods inserted into a cross-shaped wooden structure. The space left open between back and seat is not technically necessary, but instead purely a design element. The intention was to emphasize the chairà"light weight visually by perforating the otherwise large volume of the shell.

It is the unbelievable elegance of this assertive seating sculpture that enables any number of sitting and reclining positions, which is so very appealing. It has long since established itself as an icon of Organic Design. The Eames La Chaise is one of the most sculptural chairs ever made and crosses the boundaries between art and design.

This Vitra collectible miniature design chair is constructed to the exact specifications of the original, right down to the last detail. Because each miniature modern chair is so true to the original, the miniature chair is not only a valuable collector "item or decorative item, but also an ideal illustrative material for universities, colleges of design and architects.

Eames

Eames

Charles and Ray Eames were 20th-century American designers best known for their groundbreaking contributions to architecture, furniture design, and industrial design. Not only they have had a prominent influence on manufacturing but on photography. They believed that design is a solution to a problem and remained true to their philosophies for their entire lives.

In the first place, their work reflected the nation’s defining social movements. This husband-and-wife team based their pieces on a combination of art and science. The Eameses design architecture, process, product, style, and function ushered in a new age of design.

Their world-renowned Eames lounge chair is now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It also stands in homes and offices throughout the world. They received many awards, including the Royal Gold Medal and the Twenty-Five Year Award from the American Institute of Architects.

Musart is proud to present their work and designs that still inspire us today.
