Description

Introducing a medium weight fleece crewneck that proudly showcases Basquiat's iconic album cover artwork, Beat Bop. Just like the album cover itself, this sweatshirt is printed on both the front and back. Adding a touch of authenticity, the bottom left front features a sewn-in woven tag adorned with handwritten text taken directly from Basquiat's renowned notebook pages.

Let's delve into the significance of the artwork: One of Jean-Michel Basquiat's most sought-after creations is the record album artwork for the early hip-hop record, Beat Bop, which he not only produced but also self-financed. Released under his own Tartown record label, the original 500 vinyl pressings of this album are now considered highly valuable in the market.

By wearing this crewneck sweatshirt, you not only embrace the comfort and style of a well-crafted garment but also carry a piece of Basquiat's artistic legacy with you. The striking display of the Beat Bop artwork on both the front and back creates a visually captivating design. Furthermore, the inclusion of the sewn-in woven tag featuring Basquiat's handwritten text adds a unique and personal touch.

This sweatshirt is a testament to Basquiat's influence on the hip-hop and art worlds, allowing you to express your appreciation for his groundbreaking contributions. It's a fashionable statement that pays homage to Basquiat's creativity and serves as a reminder of the value and significance of his work.

The Artist

Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of the best known artists of his generation and is widely considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. His career in art spanned the late 1970s through the 1980s until his death in 1988, at the age of 27. Basquiat works are edgy and raw, and through a bold sense of color and composition, he maintains a fine balance between seemingly contradictory forces such as control and spontaneity, menace and wit, urban imagery and primitivism. The Basquiat brand embodies the values and aspirations of young, international urban culture.
The conjunction of various media is an integral element of Basquiat's art. His paintings are typically covered with text and codes of all kinds: words, letters, numerals, pictograms, logos, map symbols, diagrams and more, and featured multi-panel paintings and individual canvases with exposed stretcher bars, the surface dense with writing, collage and imagery.
