This Keith Haring Statue represents one of Haring's most famous characters: Radiant Baby. The Radiant Baby is Haring’s main tag and the symbol that represents the artist most frequently during his career. Haring explained the nature of this symbol as representing youthful innocence, purity, goodness and potential.

Keith Haring was a famous American street artist. His 1980’s graffiti-inspired drawings, made in New York City subway stations marked a generation and beyond. Firstly, he was interested in the colorful and subversive graffiti art of the city’s streets. Haring’s signature images included dancing figures, a crawling infant emitting rays of light, a barking dog, a flying saucer, large hearts, and figures with televisions for heads.

Most importantly, Haring’s work expressed concepts of birth, death, sexuality, and war. He was openly gay and was a strong advocate of safe sex. Secondly, his work turned to focus on AIDS awareness when he contracted the disease. He also established the Keith Haring Foundation to provide funding and imagery to AIDS organizations and children’s programs. Haring died by1990, but his art and influence remain legendary throughout the world.

Haring’s work has a timeless effect on popularizing pop art and “low art” within the “high art” scene. The honesty, truth and broad-reaching approachability of his works will remain integral to consider. In short, his name will always be at the forefront of a more permissive and progressive culture. Haring

Keith Haring (1958-90) was one of the most renowned of the young artists, filmmakers, and performers whose work responded to urban street culture of the 1980s. Inspired by the graffiti artists whose marks covered the city’s subway cars, Haring began to draw in white chalk over the black paper used to cover vacant advertising panels. Not only was Haring able to reach a large and diverse audience with his subway drawings, but, eventually, the subway became, as Haring said, a “laboratory” for working out his ideas. As early as 1980, Haring began exhibiting in galleries and museums around the world, but continued to participate in public projects, including literacy campaigns and anti-AIDS initiatives.
Before his death, Keith Haring established a foundation in his name to maintain and enhance his legacy of giving to children’s and AIDS organizations. Throughout his career, Haring produced murals, sculptures and paintings to benefit hospitals, underprivileged children's groups and various community health organizations. Keith Haring died in New York in February 1990 of AIDS, at the age of 31.
