About The Son of Man painting
The Son of Man painting consists of a bowler-hatted man in an overcoat whose face is hidden behind a suspended leaves and a green apple. However, the man "eyes can be distinguished peeking over the edge of the apple.
The Son of Man was commissioned by Harry Torczyner in the summer of 1963 and delivered to him in August 1964. He had asked Magritte to paint a self-portrait in the spirit of self-portraits in which the subject wears a hat. Irene Hamoir, a Belgian poet and a prominent member of the Belgian surrealist movement, found the title of his work.
