The Skateroom x Jean-Michel Basquiat - Skateboard Triptych In Italian (1983)
Bringing together tradition and contemporary culture, this Jean-Michel Basquiat Skateboard Triptych features a reproduction of Basquiat's work In Italian (1983). Although Jean-Michel Basquiat titled the artwork 'In Italian', several words are included that derive from other European languages such as the word 'Sangre', which means blood in Spanish. Instead, Basquiat could have been alluding to the painting's graffiti style. The word 'graffiti' originates from the Italian term 'graffito' (scratched) which was used by archaeologists to refer to inscriptions found on the walls of ancient ruins such as the Catacombs of Rome.
This exclusive and limited edition set of three skate decks made in collaboration between The Skateroom and The Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat mixes the energies of underground culture and legendary artists.
