Description

A set of cubes that represent a tribute to the architecture discipline.

Each of the eight cubes in this collection is made of a distinctive natural and composite material: maple wood, bakelite, cork, granite, EVA, silicone, acrylic, and aluminum. The Architect's Cubes can be combined to create a large cube or arranged individually as sculptural building blocks. Architects John Bennett and Gustavo Bonevardi designed the compellingly tactile set to foster creative exploration of its forms, materials and invite everyone to do his or her own material mixes and compositions.

These materials frequently appear in an architect "repertoire and were selected to provide a complementary range of textures and densities. Their diversity required a scrupulous production method to ensure true, geometric proportions with pure, plumb lines. Engaging with the cubes provides insight into the meditations on materials and purpose that often arise when a building is conceived

Co-founders of PROUN Space Studio, Bennet and Bonevardi have produced works featured in The Un-Private House and Mies in Berlin, two exhibitions mounted by the Department of Architecture and Design in 1999 and 2001, respectively.
