About Van Gogh Pillow Case - Musart on Pillows - Almond Blossoms (1890)

This Vincent Van Gogh Pillow Case is part of our original collection, Musart on Pillows. Jacquard weaving consists of the interweaving of two kinds of yarn: warp threads (10,500 threads in 100% cotton) and weft threads (cotton, wool, linen). This extremely precise technique makes it possible to interweave around 80 threads / cm². This technique results in obtaining a point of great finesse, it also allows to use a multitude of colors. In the Almond Blossom painting , Van Gogh was not out to revive his own optimism, but to make an offering to his ever-caring brother. In spring 1889, Theo had married Jo Bonger, and in February 1890 she gave birth to their son, whom they named Vincent after the boy's godfather. The Blossoming Almond Tree was van Gogh's present to the infant that would perpetuate his name. Never before had he viewed the bright buds in such close-up; never before had he lavished such color on the glorious blossoms. The hope expressed in the painting is bound up with human life and thoughts of the future. It is not exactly Utopian in character; rather, the keynote of the painting is longing. And it is not really a reminiscence of Aries at all - in a sense, the painting is a celebration of family life, which Vincent the godfather now felt part of again. In the picture he tried to call forth for his godson what was denied to him: a carefree, happy future. "My dear brother, later one occasionally finds it necessary to remember", he wrote rather inscrutably in a letter when Theo married. Now, painting this picture, van Gogh's own remembering looked back to his origin, and the family again became the epitome of security on earth, with the birth of a boy who bore his name. Van Gogh

Van Gogh was a master painter who strongly influenced the abstract and Neo-expressionist who came after him. Originating from the Netherlands, he discovered Impressionist art while living in Paris and started to use the color and light. His work is well known for its beauty, emotion, and color, as well as its interesting viewpoints of mundane objects. Despite being extremely poor and generally unknown throughout his lifetime, Van Gogh is now one of the greatest Dutch painters.  He lived a life with emotional tension and madness, and he created his finest piece, Starry Night, inside an institution. Although the specter of mental illness haunted him throughout his adult life and created a habit of inflicting self-harm (such as the infamous severed ear), his work remained a testament to his genius. Van Gogh died at the age of only 37, due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His brother Theo would go on to distribute his work and cultivate his popularity.
