Description

The world-renowned premier creator and dealer of limited edition art toys, Kidrobot collaborates with the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat licensed by Artestar, a global licensing agency which represents high-profile artists, photographers, and designers. Kidrobot and the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat join forces to bring this exclusive Jean-Michel Basquiat Wine of Babylon Dunny, a limited edition of only 500 pieces worldwide. The painting “Wine of Babylon” made its debut in 1984 in Basquiat’s exhibition. This painting includes several prominent “Alice in Wonderland” characters such as the Caterpillar, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, and the Mad Hatter, prompting a large discussion around the painting’s intent and meaning. The most notable aspect of the painting is the Mad Hatter being depicted by a black man, which many believed was a statement made by the artist on the white dominance in Pop culture in America. Basquiat’s unique artistic style is characterized for his eloquence in critiquing eloquently society and the elitist pedestal of art through his popular culture references and immediately recognizable iconography, such as his famous crown symbol. Placed on top of various subjects, throughout his oeuvre, Basquiat’s crown is meant to represent a symbol of royalty, of hierarchy and a recognizable emblem of young, self-taught artist who fiercely removes art from the austere and elitist environments of art galleries and museums to the walls of streets in New York City, for everyone to appreciate. Bring the iconic art of Jean-Michel Basquiat to decorate your favorite room in your home, with this one of a kind Jean-Michel Basquiat Masterpiece 8″ Legacy Dunny. The artist

Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of the best known artists of his generation and is widely considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. His career in art spanned the late 1970s through the 1980s until his death in 1988, at the age of 27. Basquiat works are edgy and raw, and through a bold sense of color and composition, he maintains a fine balance between seemingly contradictory forces such as control and spontaneity, menace and wit, urban imagery and primitivism. The Basquiat brand embodies the values and aspirations of young, international urban culture.
The conjunction of various media is an integral element of Basquiat's art. His paintings are typically covered with text and codes of all kinds: words, letters, numerals, pictograms, logos, map symbols, diagrams and more, and featured multi-panel paintings and individual canvases with exposed stretcher bars, the surface dense with writing, collage and imagery.
